How do Switzerland's anti-terrorist units build up their case files and what exactly are they trying to prove? In this lunchtime lecture, Florent Bielmann will provide an overview of his research, the aim of which is to dissect all the criminal investigation files relating to terrorism that have been brought to trial in Switzerland. The focus will be on the cases of Foreign Terrorist Fighters who left Switzerland. Due to a lack of access to case files for researchers, there has been very little study of the state's response - particularly police action - to terrorist phenomena. This is a gap that Florent Bielmann is seeking to fill through his work, which he will present to you on this occasion.
Florent Bielmann
Criminal analyst with the Federal Judicial Police and doctoral student at the Lausanne School of Criminal Sciences. His thesis is on ‘The police and judicial version of “jihadist terrorism” in Switzerland. An analysis of federal investigations’.
