Abstract:
Who hasn’t witnessed on television dramatic police interventions, often sensationalized and sometimes turning tragic? While recent years have seen efforts to portray policing in a more realistic light, many still hold a skewed perception of police work. Have you yourself ever applauded or harshly criticized a police action without fully understanding its context and complexities?
What are the challenges and the intricate work surrounding these interventions? Amid controversies and polarized opinions, this book seeks to objectively analyze police intervention.
This volume explores the origins of the police institution, the analytical framework for the use of force, the desired effectiveness of policing, police abolitionism, and the mechanisms for addressing misconduct.
