Marie-Marthe Cousineau is a Full Professor at the School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal and the coordinator of microprograms and the graduate diploma (DESS) in Social Administration, as well as the Social Administration option within the Master’s in Health Services Administration at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the same university. Her main areas of interest include life trajectories, experiences of victimization, violence against girls and women, social reactions, as well as judicial and penal policies and practices. Her work also focuses on prevention, intervention, training, and advocacy for rights.
Biography:
Dr. Cousineau holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Université du Québec à Montréal (1992), supervised by Danièle Laberge. She also earned a Master's degree in Criminology from the Université de Montréal (1987) under the supervision of Yves Brillon and a Bachelor's degree in Criminology from the same institution (1982). Her research employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, with a strong emphasis on evaluative research approaches.
In 2002, she was recognized as a mentor at the Université de Montréal by the Permanent Committee on the Status of Women. Dr. Cousineau is distinguished by her commitment to raising awareness, preventing violence, evaluating practices and actions, and fostering a deeper understanding of life trajectories and the violence experienced by girls and women.
