The Egyptian General Intelligence Service holds an exclusive mandate over the Palestinian issue, which involves a dual negotiation process: intra-Palestinian reconciliation on one hand, and the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on the other. In reality, the involvement of security actors in these negotiations is symptomatic of a shift in how successive Egyptian regimes perceive this issue. Due to territorial proximity, it is primarily seen as a matter of Egyptian national security, representing a partially constructed threat. This explains the deployment of security policies in the border area with the Gaza Strip, which this article aims to analyze.
